"Count it all joy when you are surrounded by circumstances that test your heart" (James 1:2).
This isn't a "fake it 'til you make it" verse. There isn't one. "Count it all joy" means you're empowered by Jesus to live in joy despite difficult circumstances.
The enemy would much rather you let him help you count all the ways you can screw up, or focus on everything that could go wrong, or dwell on all the times you've been hurt before.
But you’re not going there. You’re familiar with those places, but you know they’re not the real you. You’re going to view everything you’re facing from inside the righteousness, peace, and joy of the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17). From there you can see the grace he’s made available for your situation is far greater than the situation itself.
Living there means turning this day from stealing from your identity to becoming more complete, peaceful, and powerful. It means you're able to breathe, smile, and succeed, regardless of what's going on around you.
So, breathe. Take a few moments to renew your mind and heart in God's presence, and see how much greater his provisions are than your problems. Smile, and take your next step in joy.
